The Sol Project, is so named after the Latin word sol, meaning sun and is a nonprofit, 501 (c) 3, creative arts and educational organization. We record personal histories of indigenous peoples, particularly women, through interviews on video or film. We also record with photography and written interviews.
The Kah-Monno Group is a Sol project dedicated to funding young indigenous girls in primary school through high school. We understand that the best way to help a developing nation is by helping to educate their girls. It has been shown that girls who become educated women make different choices; choices that have a positive impact on families and their society as a whole.
Exhibitions and Lectures of gathered material include photographs, displays of stated and recorded personal histories that reflect the experience of indigenous people. They are shown in corporate and museum spaces.
In 1995 while visiting Arhnem Land in the Northern Territory, I met Aboriginal elder Bill Niegi. He had this to say; "When you die, it is one country, one people. The great challenge is to remember where you come from."
